Really?!?! Why buy it when you can make it yourself??? I literally had no idea there was a recipe for this! Another one found in the 1986 version of the University United Methodist Church fundraiser cookbook found at the Red River, New Mexico cabin. This recipe was submitted by an unknown cook.
Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cup instant non-fat dry milk
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup water, boiling
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
Combine ingredients in blender just until smooth. Refrigerate until chilled & slightly thickened. Makes about 1 1/4 cups, which is about the same yield as the 14 ounce commercial type can. It may be stored up to 1 week in the refrigerator or frozen for 1 month.
